White Sox Beat Red Sox

BOSTON — Jim Thome tied Mickey Mantle for 14th place with his 536th career homer, Gavin Floyd won buy hytrin online his fifth straight decision and the Chicago White Sox beat the Boston Red Sox 4-2 on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep.

Thome hit a two-out, two-run drive off Tim Wakefield (8-9) in the first inning for his 29th of the season. Thome and Paul Konerko hit consecutive two-out doubles in the sixth to give Chicago a 3-1 lead.

The White Sox started the day with a half-game lead in the AL Central over Minnesota, which played at Oakland later Sunday. Boston led the Twins by 3 1/2 games in the wild-card race and trailed Tampa Bay by 4 1/2 in the AL East before Sunday’s games.

Floyd (15-6) allowed one run and seven hits over 6 2-3 innings against a team that outscored the White Sox 16-4 and outhit them 30-11 in the first two games.

He worked out of threats in three of the first four innings, giving up Boston’s first run on Jacoby Ellsbury’s RBI single in the fourth.

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia singled in the first for his ninth straight hit, reaching safely in 11 consecutive plate appearances. He went 1-for-4 with a walk after going 4-for-4 with a walk in each of the previous two games.

Pedroia had a chance to win the game in the ninth, coming up with runners on the corners and two outs. But he flied out against Bobby Jenks, who picked up his 27th save in 30 opportunities.

Chicago ended a three-game losing streak and denied the Red Sox their first three-game sweep over the White Sox in Boston since April 1986.

The Red Sox squandered a couple of good opportunities early.

They loaded the bases with two outs in the first on singles by David Ortiz and Pedroia and a walk to Mark Kotsay. Then Jason Bay hit a hard liner that third baseman Joe Crede grabbed.

In the second, Boston put runners on second and third on a single by Alex Cora and a double by Ellsbury, who had three hits for the second straight day. But Jed Lowrie flied out to end the inning.

After a perfect third, Floyd ran into trouble again in the fourth. Jeff Bailey singled and took second on Kevin Cash’s single. Ellsbury’s single scored Bailey and sent Cash to third. Then Ellsbury stole second, but Lowrie left two runners stranded again when he struck out.

Crede doubled in a run in the ninth.

Day three of the Democratic National Convention began with Autumn and Pam joining me and my sister* Karri for breakfast at a restaurant down the block from the Big Tent. We were quite impressed with the coffee…

We left Pam at the Big Tent, for she had to give her presentation on being a straight ally. Autumn had a number of transgender activists she wanted to interview and I hustled along to be her videographer. It was a little weird that of all the panels a scheduling conflict would keep me away from, it was the one on being a straight ally.

The event Autumn and I attended was the LGBT Caucus. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom took the podium just literally minutes after learning of the death of Del Martin. He was visibly shaken and took a couple of minutes to compose himself. The room fell silent, but as Mayor Newsom spoke, he expressed the feeling of many that it was a blessing that Del was able to finally marry her partner of 5+ decades.

But let’s not forget that “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” at the time was an improvement over what we had before. So you need to push hard for getting everything, but by pushing hard to get everything we need to make sure we get something because we’ll take that something and the next time we’ll get something more and then after that we’re going to get something more and then we’re going to get something more and after that we’re going to get everything, and that’s how it works.

(Hmm. What a delicious bit of foreshadowing this is, in retrospect.)

another morning of pretty blue morning glories blooming straightaway out my window! there are some other colors too, but this am, the despondent is Dialect right striking. the finches precinct all hanging from thistle feeders under the little dogwood and the garden is waking up to what looks like yet another lovely age in charlotte. i need to go pick some tomatoes and eggplant suitable my co-workers. i usualy bring some in on saturdays or fridays because the crew i work with date loves them. its cialis been a bit breezier than usual the defunct yoke days, and cooler. out in our pool last night it scarcely seemed as if the pool at 86 degrees was warmer than the air. i suppose it may have been. i’m watching a little finch trying to find time for a help to succeed its momma to feed it on one of the thistle feeders. funny scene, here it sits next to all that seed begging to be fed. ;)i think there is no prettier about that watching goldfinches flitting about and eating from thistle bags hanging along a morning corona vine in bloom. i’m so glad i did what i did with annual vine seeds this year. i just tossed them all together in pots and explain them under the support posts in the direction of the carport~patio roof. the posts are aluminum with s scrolling. i hung some pots of other plants too, coleus and there are large pots with 4 o’clocks and caladiums and other things nearby too-so what i have is a greatly looking area of foliage and flowers on the ground and it tapers dippy into diverse vines that climbed up the posts nearly to the patio roof and open with a variety of different colors and shapes. this morning a cypress vine is beginning to bloom among the morning glories–it has smaller fair red flowers. all these flowers attract the baby hummingbirds and i be enduring thistle socks tied to the posts among the vines to attract the gold finches. we can sit missing on our carport~patio and watch the birds or i can see them from my kitchen pr?cis where i as per usual blog. lovely beauteous!!! the pots are nothing alluring, sometimes i stack clay pots on first of other clay pots or put pots on upside down bleed crates to give them varying heights. i have used very cheap things fitted pots because i am unendingly looking to cut the budget. i grew many of these things from seeds or bulbs becuase that is cheaper than buying plants. what plants i bought were purchased after the spring pother so they were conspicuous down and needed a bit of tlc–but now they are doing well. ugly pots are barely visible when they are in full bloom. i hold my first-class appealing pots for the first porch near the door–these are more visible from the road and i don’t spend much but out there so the pots accept things in them that disposed themselves more and the pots ’show’ more than they do in the back where we have our private little jungle.

Twins-Angels: Matt Guerrier Turns On His A-Game for Minnesota

I must admit; I was less than thrilled when Gardenhire elected to run out Matt Guerrier for the ninth inning on Thursday night. The score was tied, and if one run was surrendered, the Twins would have started this road trip on the wrong foot.After thinking it over, I realized that the right decision was made. There was no other real option in the bullpen besides Nathan. I would much rather have Nathan available later in the game, if needed. It turns out that is exactly what happened.It was a fairly large gamble, but one I would want made again in a heartbeat.Not only did the Twins get the win, but Thursday night was a huge morale boost for Guerrier. Previous to that game, this 29-year-old reliever had turned in results that left something to be desired.Last year, Guerrier was amazing. He never had an ERA over 2.39 and he had a sub-two ERA for the majority of the year. His WHIP is now 486 points higher, his overall ERA 2.43 points acheter viagra higher, and his K/SO ratio over 1.5 points higher than last year.

Simply put, Guerrier has disappointed this year.The main reason for this drastic decrease is obviously the role he serves this year. With Neshek taking the eighth and Nathan the ninth, in 2007, Guerrier was the seventh-inning man, if achat levitra he was required.

This year, Neshek is rehabbing in Fort Myers, and Guerrier has been forced to transition into the set-up role.As a result, Guerrier is on pace to pitch nearly six less innings than 2007. The Angels’ bullpen didn’t stop the bleeding, as they were battered and bruised for several more runs.This series is really having the feeling of a playoff matchup. The fact that the Rays are playing the White Sox just adds to the drama. While runs are being scored in Chicago, they were few and far between here on the West Coast. Three-Run-Jack, Adam Everett, and Denard Span changed that tonight, however.After that fourth inning, this game turned into a Minnesota slugfest. With additional RBI from Everett and Span, the final score turned out to be 9-0 in favor of the Twins.Yes, I know, I have been avoiding Glen Perkins. He is the obvious MVP tonight, as he went eight full-innings, scattering only five hits. When you think about it, the fact that Baker and Perkins have shut down the most powerful team in MLB for 16 innings is a minor miracle. That is all I am going to say about starting pitching tonight. More to come on that subject tomorrow.Oh, in case you care for some reason, the White Sox lost to the Rays tonight. The Twinkies are now up by half a game in the AL Central. Let’s hope it lasts.
